Instead of a Gift That Gets Eaten, One That Hangs on Their Bag for Years

There are two ways to price a gift. What it cost, and what it leaves behind. The first is written on the receipt; the second is written in the memory of the person who opened it. This is an attempt to explain ₩128,000 by the second measure.

Gifts that get eaten, gifts that get forgotten

Flowers, a good bottle, a box of fruit, a candle, a gift card. All received gladly — and within a fortnight the flowers are gone, the bottle is empty, the candle is in a drawer and the card is a number. None of them are bad gifts. But they record what was received, not who chose it or why. What a person keeps for years is not the price of the object; it is the evidence that someone spent time thinking of them.

What one photograph does

Most of us carry thousands of photos on a phone and not a single printed one. To choose that one, you have to go back through the album. To choose the sentence for the back, you have to go back through the time you spent with that person. The one opening the box knows this. They read the hours you spent choosing in the photo, and the hesitation in the sentence behind it. It is a gift that delivers time rather than money.

A locket, updated

When photographs were rare, people wore a tiny portrait or a lock of hair inside a pendant: a locket. It was never meant to be shown around. It was meant to be kept close. Closed, a piece of jewellery; open, that person. AUREKTO is closer to that locket, moved onto the bag you carry today, than to anything sold as a photocard case. Closed, it is a leather charm. Open the snap and there is one photo, and the sentence behind it. Who gets to see it, and when, is decided by the person carrying it.

On the bag

On a leather tote or a canvas bag, it reads as leather goods. It looks like neither merch nor a frame, so it needs no explaining on a work bag — and because it hangs on the bag someone carries every day, it never ends up in a drawer. A gift that does not disappear, in a place that gets seen several times a day: that is the strap of a bag.

It has to deserve that place

Put a feeling in a cheap object and the feeling looks cheap. So the body is Italian Dollaro-grain cowhide — a fine pebbled emboss that shrugs off daily scratches, right for something that swings from a bag every day. The hardware is gold-tone throughout.

Inside this small footprint, a cover, snap and card chamber stack in layers. One case takes more handwork and more time than a wallet. The steps are too fine for mass production; a leather artisan with ten years at the bench makes each one in small batches. Below, those hands at work.

And one card

It does not ship as an empty holder. A double-sided card — the photo you choose at checkout on the front, the words you want to say on the back — arrives already in place, so the gift is finished the moment the box opens. It is the same size as a standard photocard (55×85mm), so years from now it can be swapped for another photo.

So: ₩128,000 — about $88

It is roughly what a good bottle or a flower delivery costs. The difference is what remains. One is gone in two weeks; the other hangs on a bag for years. Italian leather, layered construction, an artisan's hands, and one card carrying a photo and a sentence. Remove any one of them and the price drops — and it stops being a locket and becomes a case. It is also why AUREKTO never discounts.

Two colorways: Noir Rouge (black × red) and Caramel Ivory (tan × cream). Prices differ by region — each market's price is set with its own duties and international shipping in mind. For US orders, that is ₩128,000, charged in Korean won and about $88 at current rates.

The place for the person you love most cannot be the cheapest object on the bag. ₩128,000 is the price of that place.
